I was born and raised in Nottingham, and began my career in admin and I.T in 1986.
I'm a pet lover, a poet, a loyal friend and a hard worker, and this book tells the story of my working life so far!

I am a stickler for detail and capable of working to tight deadlines. I take pride in finishing jobs accurately, efficiently and to a high standard.

I have worked in small specialist teams throughout my career with the Special Compliance Office of the Inland Revenue (IR) and the Medical Research Council (MRC). In both organisations, the team members worked closely together to provide IT solutions and maintenance for our colleagues throughout the UK. The information we dealt with was highly confidential and I was a trusted employee.
I gained a thorough working knowledge of MS Office applications through both in-house courses and self training, which then enabled me to manage the full life cycle of projects. This included obtaining and analysing diverse user requirements, proposing solutions, and designing and implementing Access databases and Excel spreadsheets.
I am adept at organising and analysing information using the tools within Excel and Access, and in the production of reports integrating such information into documents that could be printed or distributed electronically. During this process I often conversed with stakeholders and end users, to ensure their needs and requirements were being met.
I also have solid PowerPoint skills for communicating complex information to audiences. I have experience in collating and formatting substantial amounts of disparate information into presentations and providing documentation for handing out to delegates. I've helped train delivery teams in the operation and timing of presentations, and received very positive feedback from all concerned.
Graphic design is my passion!

You may be wondering why I've set up this wee website. Well, that's easy to explain - I'm a freelance web/graphic designer, and thought that having my own site, detailing what I can do, would catch your attention!

With a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, html coding and internet search methodologies, and with a good eye for design, I am experienced in:
- building Access databases
- creating complex Excel spreadsheets.
- creating graphics, banners, flyers, etc.
- organising and analysing information in Access and Excel
- producing reports to integrate such information.
- creating Word documentation to accompany databases and presentations.
- formatting Word documents into more user friendly versions.
- creating PowerPoint presentations.
- performing speedy online searches for information and graphics.
- building and maintaining small websites.
I also provided user training via manuals which I produced using Word, one-on-one tutorials and through a helpdesk service.
For a monthly IR management information system which I had designed with Excel, I had to import and collate performance results of high worth tax investigations for the whole organisation. In order that the data was the most current and of greatest value there was only limited time available to me at the end of each month to carry out this work. I had to work quickly, and accuracy was essential as this was used by senior management to make informed business decisions.
In the course of my work on designing and delivering database solutions, I had to communicate effectively with all levels from senior managers to end users. I have often been complimented on the user-friendliness of my applications and the quality of my training both verbally and via manuals.
I have developed and maintained corporate Intranet and Internet web sites, created ad-hoc graphics and posters, and have a good eye for design.
Since giving up full time employment I've worked as a property developer, and set up two online businesses which I run when not working full time.
I handle the full design of advertising material for a Kilmarnock amdram company, and have provided logos and full graphic sets for several websites.
I have a lot of experience in the use of social media and see it as invaluable marketing tool, enjoying the rapport whilst building business contacts.
I'm a hard worker, both as a team member and as an individual, an eager and fast learner, friendly and approachable, and readily rise to the challenge of learning new things.
